Kate Middleton Looks Pretty In Pink Coat For Charity Visit

Kate Middleton sure knows how to rock a tailored coat!

The Duchess of Cambridge made her final appearances (before taking maternity leave) on Friday, and as per usual, she looked lovely. Catherine was joined by her husband, Prince William, for a tour of the Stephen Lawrence Centre, as well as a visit to Christ Church in Gypsy Hill.

The 33-year-old royal wore a bright fuschia pink Mulberry coat (which she previously sported during her trip to New York), which she paired with classic black pumps. She also carried a simple black clutch and kept her accessories to a minimum.

Of course, the Duchess' brown locks were styled to perfection and her makeup was left looking light and natural.

Last week, Kate revealed that her second child would arrive by mid to late April, which means little Prince George will have a little sibling very soon. Just think of how cute the photos will be!

Winnie Harlow is back on home turf, and dressing the part.

On March 26, the Canadian model with vitiligo (a skin condition that causes a loss of skin pigment), attended the Rudsak fall/winter 2015 show at Toronto Fashion Week wearing a Canadian tuxedo and black Rudsak parka.

Following the runway presentation, she headed backstage to pose alongside Rudsak designer, Evik Asatoorian.

Toronto Fashion Week: The Best Moments From Day 4 At The Tents

We are hitting the home stretch!

Thursday March 26 marked day four of World MasterCard Fashion Week (a.k.a. Toronto Fashion Week), and it brought dancing, yoga and big-named stars to the tents at David Pecault Square.

Luxury sweatshirt line Kania put on a dance show with models doing pointe down the runway, while Hilary MacMillan's fall 2015 show featured a live performance by the band St. Royals as the soundtrack to her chic and sexy collection (we still have "Elastic Heart" stuck in our heads!).

Canadian activewear company Lole held its first-ever runway show, with models showing off their best downward dog in the nature-inspired collection.

Farley Chatto took us on a voyage to Russia, with his collection of opulent furs influenced by the lifestyle of Russia's last emperor, Czar Nicholas. Stacey McKenzie made a special runway appearance sporting an ultra-glam grey fur coat that she pulled off beautifully.

Soia & Kyo put on a solid show with Scandinavian-inspired outerwear collection in neutral tones -- we especially loved the floor-length coat with graphic print lining and a fur stole.

Finally, Rudsak closed the evening with a celeb-filled front row that included Raptors all-star Kyle Lowry, Canadian actress Elisha Cuthbert and model Winnie Harlow, checking out the fall/winter 2015 collection. And the runway was just as star-studded as the frow, with Juan Paolo Roldan and Paul Mason making an appearance (to cheers and applause).

Summer Fashion Trends 2015: The Best Styles For The Season

$

0
Spring may be in full swing, but we're already thinking of updating our wardrobes with all the latest summer fashion trends.

When it comes to dressing for the hot season, we like to keep it simple. From classic shirt dresses to bright and sunny colours and prints, we can't wait to add the season's top styles into our closets.

What are you waiting for? Check out the summer fashion trends we're most excited about:

(Story continues below slideshow)

1. Bright And Sunny
Yellow was a huge trend during the 2015 awards season (especially at the Golden Globes), and it was everywhere on the runways. Everyone from Cushnie et Ochs to Michael Kors sent out garments in the sunny shade, and we love it. It's such a great shade for wearing while basking in the sunshine. And it's just a downright happy colour!

2. Shirt Dresses
A great shirt dress is perfect for summer -- it's effortless, polished, and always chic. Designers like Altuzarra and Rebecca Minkoff sent versions of the wardrobe staple down the runway, proving that a classic never goes out of style. Throw one on for a day of errands, a night on the town, or even over a bathing suit on a beach holiday. It's pretty much the perfect garment.

3. Blue And White
The combination of blue and white is crisp and clean, which is perfect for summer. It's also a great alternative to wearing the typical black and white. We saw the colour combo on plenty of runways, from Diane von Furstenberg to Adeam, and Alice + Olivia, and we can't wait to try it out for ourselves.

4. Kimonos And Robes
Robes and kimonos are the perfect toppers for any outfit, and their generally relaxed fit adds a little bit of casual coolness to an ensemble. Some of our favourites for the season were from Tracy Reese and Thakoon, who presented the trend in sleek satin fabric for an extra luxe feel.

5. In Uniform
The spring/summer runways presented us with various takes on the uniform trend -- from Marc Jacob's utilitarian khaki green looks to Tommy Hilfiger's "Sergeant Pepper"-esque military ensembles -- and to be honest, we kind of loved them all. Can we ever have too many army jackets in our closet?

6. Sex Appeal
This summer, don't be afraid to get a little bit sexy! Lace-up details (Givenchy), thigh-high slits, sheer fabrics (Balmain), and short skirts (Versace) were all over the runways, proving that it's definitely the perfect season for a little skin.

7. In Bloom
What's summer without some florals? We saw versions of the print presented by designers like Simone Rocha, Marni and Chanel, all of whom really went bold with all-over prints in bright colours. Flower power forever!

8. All-White Everything
Nothing says summer quite like bright white. The crisp shade was a huge trend on the spring/summer 2015 runways. Notable designers who tried the trend were Alber Elbaz at Lanvin and Christope Lemaire. We'll definitely be trying this out for ourselves once the warm weather hits -- we'll just have to be extra careful with our summer cocktails!

Protester Crashes Runway At Toronto Fashion Week

Toronto Fashion Week is going out with a bang -- and not the good kind.

A protester took to the runway at World Mastercard Fashion Week to stand up against the use of fur in fashion. A woman walked onto the runway at The Wild North show holding a sign that read, "The Wild North. FUR = CRUELTY. This is not fashion this is violence."

At first, it seemed as though the female protester was part of the show, but as she made her way to the (almost) end of the runway, a security guard ran out to remove her.

We captured the action from the front row -- just check out the scene in the video below.

During the show's finale, the models and designer walked out with a dog, which some found a little strange.

Protesters were also spotted outside the tents at David Pecaut Square, holding signs with anti-fur messages.

Back To The Future: How To Bring 70s Fashion Into Your Modern Look

$
0
0
The ‘70s are having their own fashion revival again, with the early 2000s being the last major time floral kimonos were relevant and the phrase “boho chic” was thrown around in the glossy pages of fashion magazines.

What these combinations of laid back, glamourous, and structured looks say about us now is yet to be revealed. But there is a question that remains: What’s the best way to pull off those looks in the present day? Let’s find out.

Pantsuits

The pantsuit is a more political piece of fashion from an era mostly dedicated to having fun: it is a signifier of the ascension of women in society and culture. It featured tailoring, precision, and attention to detail usually reserved for men, found both in neutral and vibrant colours.

The suit now differs from its past self with pant legs that can be either pared down in width (less bell bottoms, but not totally boot cut; skinny, as well), mixing and matching patterns and colours to stay fresh while adding other simplistic and modern touches. Today’s suit also largely encourages and supports femininity in its silhouette and design without the expectation that it has to be that way simply because a woman is wearing it. Wear it with the appropriate amount of confidence and swagger.

Textures and Fabric

Texture is a huge element of 1970s aesthetic, with suede, denim, fringe, and silk being a dominant part of many outfits.

Wearing all of one thing at once (all denim, all suede, etc.) is something our dads used to do; see any Canadian Tuxedo ever. Today the fabrics have a softer feel, and are integrated with one another without it being too overwhelming: the double or triple denim, though, is brought into modern scope by changing up the colours of denim rather than having a solid hue throughout, or adding an accessory accent to same-hue denim outfits.

Accessories

We can thank the ‘70s for the resurgence of some of notable accessories: floppy hats, beanies (with flowers on them!), chunky statement jewellery, silk scarves, bold rings, and oversized sunglasses.

Floppy hats today differ from their original source with added dimensions, textures, and linings that elevate the hat from just a wide brim drooped on one side.

What the stylemakers in the 1970s mastered with these pieces was the fine art of wearing all of them at once: oversized sunglasses, thick gold rings, a heavily patterned scarf, and a big hat to top it all off. What we’re really good at doing now is picking a few elements to incorporate into an outfit and letting them be the statement.

Destiny's Child Reunite For Heavenly Stellar Gospel Music Awards Performance

Destiny's Child just reunited for what may be their most heavenly performance yet. Bow down!

The trio performed at the Stellar Gospel Music Awards in Las Vegas on Saturday night, and we're still in awe. Of course, their rendition of Michelle Williams' "Say Yes," was #flawless, as was their wardrobe.

Beyonce and Kelly opted for distressed denim and white blazers, while Michelle went for an extra-angelic all-white suit. All three ladies were absolutely glowing on stage, and as Bustle points out, "they're like, the holy trinity, so what else would you expect?" (Touché!)

This performance marks the first time the group has appeared on stage together since Super Bowl 2013, when they literally shut the whole place down (with their fierceness, obviously).

We just hope we get to see more the these ladies together in the future.

Hot Nail Art Trends for Spring

$

When I get my nails done, I always notice what other women are having done on their nails. Nail art is a trend that seems to be hotter than ever. With the sandal season just around the corner, I am sure these creative colours will be popping up everywhere.

To find out the latest trends on nail art, I spoke with Bree Kim, the owner of Adorn Nail and Spa in Vancouver.

Bree shared with me the hottest trends for nail art this spring.

2015-03-28-1427582075-1664796-Nailblog.jpg

What are the hot new trends for nail art?

It is really fun to do negative space nail art. You put just a base coat on your nails and draw designs with coloured polish instead of putting a full coat all over the nails.

What are the hot new colours for nail art?

Marsala nail polish. It is burgundy or dark burgundy colours. It looks chic and sexy. We recommend 'Malaga wine' or 'Skyfall' from OPI. Also, white colours are easy to express nail art. It gives you a simple and clean look.

Which designs are new for spring?

Most people are comfortable with French tips and deep French nails.

2015-03-28-1427582291-6399995-Nailblog4.jpg

How do you take care of your nail art so it lasts a long time?

Try to do gel nails to keep the nail art fresh and lasting a long time. Or you can put regular polish on and then a gel top coat over the regular polish. Especially with 3D nail art, to keep your nail art looking amazing, try to wear gloves when you are doing house chores. Some of the cleaning agents in household cleaners can chip away at your nail art.

Any other tips?

Do not try to peel off the gel nails by yourself. It will ruin your nails. Go to a spa or get a manicure service to take off the gel nails. By doing this, it helps to keep your nails healthy and strong.

If you would prefer nail polish with less chemicals, try the organic brands of polish. Some people prefer this option.

I love all these new nail trends for spring. I am going to use these helpful tips as I continue to expand by style ideas this spring!

Your suggestions are always welcome, as I continue on my journey to live life to the fullest. Let's have the very best 2015!

Hollywood Needs to Know That All Skin Tones Are Beautiful

$
0
0
If you saw the world through my eyes, then you would believe, as I do, that beauty comes in every size, shape, colour, creed, gender, and shade of skin.

I believe the inner-spirit and character of a person are far more important than what someone looks like on the outside. But I also believe that there are no restrictions to what makes someone "beautiful" on the outside.

2015-03-29-1427652060-4242399-Sharon_Muthu.jpg

As an American-born Indian woman (and a dark-skinned woman at that) I have spent my entire life hearing about how "Fair is Beautiful." I have listened to our community elders caution their children to "stay out of the sun before you get too dark." I have watched Indian women (and men) buy creams and scrubs, promising better beauty by virtue of lighter skin. I have witnessed my fellow Indian youth stare in the mirror over the years and dislike the face staring back, because they too have begun to judge their own beauty and self-worth by the shade of their skin.

Skin colour bias exists in every community, but I am especially concerned with the way it permeates my South Asian community. And, I have an even more intimate understanding of this issue as an actress in Hollywood.

It began many years ago, when I was in consideration for the lead role on a film being produced by a major Hollywood television network. When my final round of callbacks was through, I sat by the phone eagerly awaiting my agent's call, relaying the final decision of the director and producers.

One evening my phone finally rang. On the other end of the line was the director's assistant, calling me on behalf of the director to say that they absolutely loved my audition; I had nailed the role and brought the director to tears with my acting. I was flattered and honoured. However, my joy quickly faded when this lovely woman informed me that they would not be hiring me, and had indeed decided to go a different direction regarding the casting of this role. After thanking her for her compliments and their kind consideration of me, I quickly asked her if she had any feedback to give me that I could use to better my own acting process. I will never ever forget her response:

"We don't have any acting notes; You were marvellous. The director and producers simply feel that you don't look 'Indian' enough for this role." I could barely process what she had said, as I thanked her and hung up the phone, my mind reeling, shocked and confused.

Confusion quickly turned to anger... I don't look "Indian" enough?? What does that mean? My bloodline is 100 per cent South Indian! In fact, I represent what the majority of people in India look like! And, yet this question had been asked of me time and time again in the acting world: "Sharon, what ethnicity are you? Haitian? Caribbean? Are you African, or Mixed-Race? etc, etc..." Why didn't Hollywood look at me and see "India" as clearly as I did? And, in that moment after my phone call, the profoundness of what had occurred overtook me. I knew why. It was because they didn't know any better. We, in our own Indian media and entertainment, had never clearly shown them that Indian people come in a variety of shades.

Historically, our Indian society has been so ashamed of dark skin that we have painstakingly shown the Western world only our fairest, and lightest-skinned leading Bollywood actresses. Western civilization has learned from us that these fair-skinned -- albeit beautiful and talented -- women are "what Indian women look like." And, if that is all they see, then that is all they will ever know. When I, a dark-skinned Indian actress, was in front them they didn't perceive me as "Indian" enough. It angered me, saddened me.

"Something needs to change," I thought. And, a fire was lit in my heart that has fuelled me over the years in my acting career. I vowed that day to be the bridge between the Western world and my Indian community, teaching everyone that East Indian people come in a multitude of shades -- light, dark, and everything in between -- ALL of which are beautiful. I've made it my mission to not only do good work in my acting, but also to proudly be a darker-skinned face, and a loud voice in Hollywood, representing my incredible Indian community in our truest form.

Times have definitely changed for the better in Hollywood casting. I now see beautiful Indian girls of every shade at my auditions, and it makes me smile. Still, there is work to be done and awareness to be raised. I want Hollywood to showcase Indian actors of every shade, and I want us to be featured in bigger and better roles, not just small roles as the occasional "cab driver," "convenience store owner," or stereotypical "doctor."

I want little Indian kids everywhere to grow up seeing their true faces and skin colours, properly and prominently represented in mainstream entertainment, so they can feel proud that their role-models look like them; so they can know they are beautiful both inside and out. I want to open doors in Hollywood for the next generation of Indian children, so they know that there are career-possibilities for them here if they so choose... all of it begins with us. It's time for Indians to stand up and be proud of our culture and our many skin tones. This is the only way that the rest of the world will see how incredible we truly are. This is my continued mission. And, I wholeheartedly embrace this difficult challenge.

I am proud of what I've accomplished so far. I am happy to be paving my road through an industry that is often less travelled by Indians. I am proud of my dark skin colour and am overjoyed to have played some great roles as an Indian-American woman; roles where my skin colour was considered a beautiful asset. It is an honour to represent India in Hollywood. And, I hope to stand proudly in the California sun for years to come, without hesitation of "getting too dark." My dear Indian community -- fair skin is beautiful, medium skin is beautiful, dark is beautiful. There are no exceptions.

"It is of utmost importance to know that we are all simple superstars! That we are valuable and beautiful just as we are, in the uniqueness of our skin colour and the way our bodies appear." -Wilbur Sargunaraj

Dark is Beautiful is an awareness campaign that seeks to draw attention to the unjust effects of skin colour bias and also celebrates the beauty and diversity of all skin tones. It campaigns against the toxic belief that a person's worth is measured by the colour of their skin. Launched in 2009 by Women of Worth, the campaign challenges the belief that the value and beauty of people (in India and worldwide), is determined by the fairness of their skin. This belief, shaped by societal attitudes and reinforced by media messages, is corroding the self-worth of countless people, young and old.

Lululemon really cares about the comfort of their male clientele and their, uh, business.

The athletic company's "anti-ball crushing" pant, a.k.a. the "ABC pant," is the answer to every man's prayers as they allow "the family jewels room to breathe," according to the product description.

abc pant

For $128, men will be able to hang free on a day-to-day basis, thanks to the sweat-wicking, four-way stretch fabric on the business-casual pants. And since they feature a slim fit, the company "ensures your pants and your bike chain won't cross paths."

lululemon

You can't put a price on that kind of protection.

The anatomy-friendly pants are so popular, they've helped drive a 16 per cent increase in sales, according to the company's Chief Executive Officer, Laurent Potdevin. They've also received glowing reviews on the site, with one user saying the pants hugged him in "all the right places."

The pants come in tan, khaki and, of course, black, and are available in regular and tall fit. But if you want a pair, act fast, as they are selling quickly (the khaki pant is already sold out in sizes 32 to 40).
