April 2016's Conscious Exclusive Collection from H&M aims to honor both sustainable clothing practices as well as a new exhibition at Paris's Museum of Decorative Arts.

"Fashion Forward - 300 Years of Fashion" will open on April 7 at the French capital's Muséé des Arts Decoratifs, the same day that H&M's 2016 Conscious Exclusive Collection will be available both in stores and online. The line draws on three centuries to combine sustainable materials with haute couture style, the retailer says.

With organic silk, hemp, recycled linen, Tencel blends and Denimite being called upon to provide base materials, prints, beads and recycled glass rhinestones are used to add extra details to the collection's dresses, skirts and kaftans.

"It's great to be able to have clothes that are both sustainable and red carpet-ready," said model and fashion consultant Julia Restoin Roitfeld, face of the campaign, in a video prepared by H&M.

Items in the Conscious Exclusive line are to retail for prices ranging from $24.99 for Denimite art deco clip earrings, a print silk scarf, or cat-eye shaped mirror lens sunglasses, to $299 for its trompe l'oeil print ball gown. This season's range also includes bridal styles — wedding dress designs in raw silk.

Rihanna Reveals To Vogue She Wishes She Wore A Bedazzled Thong With Her CFDA Dress

It's been almost two years since Rihanna gifted the world with her 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards gown (which may be better know as the "naked dress"). And we admit, not a day goes by where we don't think about that dress and how it left little to the imagination...

rihanna naked dress

We mean, c'mon. The Adam Selman fishnet dress, which was fitted to perfection and covered in 200,000 Swarovski crystals, is now iconic. Rihanna even twerked braless in it, so who could possibly forget it?

But in her April 2016 Vogue cover story, the 28-year-old Barbadian pop star explains to Abby Aguirre that she does have regrets about the dress. And they're regrets that will haunt her forever.

She first tells the glossy why she decided to forgo a bra:

"I just liked it better without the lines underneath. Could you imagine the CFDA dress with a bra? I would slice my throat," she says.

Then she spills on the regret:

"I already wanted to, for wearing a thong that wasn't bedazzled. That's the only regret I have in my life."

rihanna

"Wearing a thong that wasn't bedazzled is your greatest regret in life?" asks Aguirre, for clarification.

"To the CFDA Awards. Yes," Rihanna confessed.

So there you have it. Riri's biggest and only regret in life — a bedazzled thong.

BRB, bedazzling everything we own now! #noregrets2016

Famous fashion favourites stepped out in an array of outfits this week, and we're here to break it all down for you.

This week, the stars managed to pull off some tricky-to-wear ensembles, and for that we give them credit. Take Lupita Nyong'o, for example, who flawlessly paired an oversized Balmain blazer and matching oversized pants with a simple cropped top, making the look both sexy and cool at the same time.

Then there's Gwyneth Paltrow, who went really bold in an Emilia Wickstead turtleneck jumpsuit featuring long sleeves AND flared bottoms. How she managed to look that good is beyond us.

And honourable mention goes to our favourite Duchess, Catherine of Cambridge, who nailed her head-to-toe grey ensemble this week.

The 48-year-old Canadian-born model and actress fronts fashion retailer's Missguided's latest campaign, and she looks just like her '90s self.

In the Arvida Brystom-photographed ad, the PETA activist dons everything from bodycon dresses, sexy lace-up bodysuits and even a red swimsuit, reminiscent of her "Baywatch" days.

She also wears a pink furry hat, similar to the one she wore to the 1999 MTV VMAs, Racked points out.

VS Angel Candice Swanepoel Announces Pregnancy On Instagram

The Victoria's Secret family is about to welcome yet another little angel!

On Sunday, supermodel Candice Swanepoel confirmed on Instagram that she is pregnant with her first child. The blond beauty shared a black-and-white photo of herself laying down in her sports bra and lacy underwear, touching her 12-week baby bump. The other hand in the 'gram? That of her Brazilian fiancé, Hermann Nicoli, whom she has been with for a decade.

"Agora e #barrigapositiva ! #babyangel ❤️ ," the South African beauty wrote, which translates to "What happens now, large belly, baby angel," according to the Daily Mail.

Candice's big announcement comes days after fellow VS Angel Behati Prinsloo announced she, too, is expecting her first child with future #hotdad, Adam Levine.

According to Fashionista, Prinsloo, 26, will most likely give birth come August or September, whereas Swanepoel, 27, is due around October.

This has us asking: will the supermodels walk this year's coveted Victoria's Secret Fashion Show? We're going to say yes (if they're anything like Heidi Klum who took to the catwalk only five weeks after giving birth in 2009).

And with the announcement of both Behati and Candice being preggers, we can't help but to be reminded of that time when many of the VS Angels all got pregnant at the same time. As Fashionista notes, in 2010 alone "Doutzen Kroes, Adriana Lima, Gisele Bundchen, Heidi Klum, Alessandra Ambrosio, Karolina Kurkova, and Claudia Schiffer all announced they were with child."

WHOA.

We can't wait to see these future little Angels take on the modelling world one day!

Naomi Campbell Awarded With Black History Month's Mandela Legacy Award In Ottawa

Naomi Campbell made a brief visit to Canada over the weekend for the 2016 Black History Month's Mandela Legacy Awards.

The 45-year-old supermodel was one of the honourees of the awards, along with Africa-American civil-rights activist Al Sharpton and Canadian television host Tyrone Edwards.

Taking place at the Canadian Museum of History in Ottawa on Saturday night, Campbell was awarded with the honour by Mandela's grandson, Zondwa Mandela, for her multiple charitable causes, including Fashion for Relief, her series of fashion shows to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina.

According to the Ottawa Citizen, Mandela highlighted Campbell's "fearlessness, strength and perseverance" and her refusal to "see her skin as an obstacle to becoming one of the world's most achieved supermodels."

"Tonight we don't just celebrate a supermodel, we celebrate a super woman," Mandela said, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

Campbell, who wore Burberry for the occasion, accepted the award, telling the audience, "I'm committed to changing perceptions in our industry so that diversity is normal rather than the exception to the rule," reports the Ottawa Citizen.

Other honourees include broadcasters Sabine Daniel and Barbara Laurenstin, Project Jenga's Mitch Kurylowicz and HERA Mission president and founder, Peggy Taillon.

Recently, an excerpt from Naomi's new book, "Naomi Campbell" revealed the racism she encountered early on in her career.

"When I started out, I wasn't being booked for certain shows because of the colour of my skin," she writes, in a preview featured in The Guardian. "I didn't let it rattle me. From attending auditions and performing at an early age, I understood what it meant to be black. You had to put in that extra effort. You had to be twice as good."

The book is set to be released in April 2016.

Nail Art: Try This Easy Pastel Easter Egg Design

$

Spring is finally here and Easter is only days away! To celebrate the new season and holiday, dress your nails up like colourful speckled Easter eggs.

easter nail art

There are two tools you can use to achieve this look: dotting tools or a toothbrush. The dotting tools give you more control over the design and are less messy than a toothbrush.

To start off, paint your nails with pastel shades of your choice. You can keep it one shade if you prefer. Typically, pastels need at least two coats to be opaque. If you have problems with streaking, apply one coat of colour, and then apply a coat of a matte topcoat before applying the second coat of polish.

Once the base colour is dry, if you are using dotting tools, place some black polish on a piece of aluminium foil and dip the dotting tool in it. Creating different sized dots can be achieved by using different sizes of dotting tools or controlling the amount of pressure you apply while making the dot. Randomly place dots on the nail until you achieve the look you want.

If you are using the toothbrush method, make sure you cover your work area as this can be tricky. Take black polish watered down with a bit of nail polish remover/water or black acrylic paint also watered down, and dip the toothbrush into that. Flick the toothbrush to spray the colour over the nail and repeat until you are happy with the design.

Whichever method you choose, let your design dry for at least 10 minutes, and then apply a matte top coat so that it mimics the look of an actual egg.

Polishes Used: Avon Luxe Lavender, Ceramic Glaze Smells Like Rain, CND Vinylux in Honey Darlin', OPI Crawfishin' for a Compliment, and Wet n Wild Black Creme.

Lush's Wiccy Magic Muscles Massage Bar Is Causing Plants To Grow In People's Drains

It's a story that has people drawing comparisons to the fairy tale, "Jack And The Beanstalk." People are discovering plants sprouting from their drains after using Lush's Wiccy Magic Muscles massage bar.

Yup, we are completely serious.

The U.K. based cosmetics retailer that sells natural handmade bath and body products, is back in the news (and this time it's not for the misuse of a bath oil that left a girl's skin pink), after surprised customers took to social media to share images of plants growing out of their drains.

According to Lush, the $11 Wiccy Magic Muscles bar targets aching muscles. It's infused with peppermint and cinnamon spice oils, and also includes aduki beans, which "work into the muscles like firm fingertips for a relaxing massage."

Some users are claiming that after using the product, the beans begin to fall off of the bar with some ending up in the drain, resulting in this:

View post on imgur.com

According to Buzzfeed, the beans, which are popular in Asian cooking, can grow from 18 to 25 cm tall.

But according to cosmetic chemist Kelly Dobos, people are using the product all wrong:

"These massage bars aren't intended for use in the shower, but it's easy to see how these seeds can sprout in drains and potentially cause damage to plumbing if they were to get caught in drains," she explained to New Beauty. "Traditional preservatives used in cosmetics protect against the growth of bacteria, yeast and mold, but won't prevent these aduki beans from growing when exposed to the right conditions."

http://shitiseeontwitter.tumblr.com/post/141165762498

And in a response to the Internet freak out, Lush co-founder and product inventor, Helen Ambrosen told Buzzfeed, "We use organic aduki beans to create a texture in the massage bar, so that you’ve got small bead like shapes to massage the muscles. In order for the beans to germinate they must have been left in the shower for a few days. The results you get just go to show how fresh the ingredients really are."

Now this is what we call green beauty!

Hot Spring Fashion Hacks

$
0
0
Spring has (almost, technically) sprung, and retailers are now showcasing the hottest spring fashion, but how do you get the look without the hefty price tag?

Here are a few hacks to help save money on this year's spring fashion trends.

First things first, spring-cleaning is a must!
A new season means a fresh start, and what better way to make things fresh and organized in your home than cleaning out your closet. I bet you'll be surprised by how much you can accumulate in a year. The rule is, if you haven't worn something in a year, you probably won't wear it again anytime soon - get rid of it and make room for a few new items. Donate it to your favourite local clothing drive or sell online if it's worth a pretty penny!

Make it personal. You don't have to incorporate every single trend into your wardrobe that's featured on the runway or in your favourite fashion magazine. Instead, it's really about deciding which trend compliments your personal style. Being selective about your staple pieces this spring is also a good way to shop on budget.

Spring flowers. You can't go wrong with big bold floral prints - they are the way to go this time of year! While you may want to buy every gorgeous floral piece you see, resist that urge. Invest in one or two prints that you're drawn to. A silk flower cami can be a very versatile piece to pair with high waisted trousers and layered under a chunky knit sweater.
Check out retailers like Banana Republic and Joe Fresh to get a head start on your hunt for florals.

The hi's and the lows.
If you're hoping to splurge on a few pieces to last you through the warmer months there's a smart way to go about it -- and that involves investing in pieces that are hi-end (pieces you can't live without) with lower end items that you may love just as much but help stretch your budget. Splurge on investment pieces like a leather jacket or trench coat! These staple items can be worn throughout all of Spring and are worth the extra money, especially when they can be worn the next few years. Lower end items like jeans, scarves, tops are easy ways to pull in the season's latest trends without breaking the bank!

Organize a clothing swap with friends. A great way to get new-to-you clothes without spending a dime! Plus you can catch up with friends and get some new clothes!

Refresh what you already have. We see many similar styles in rotation when it comes to street style, so some pieces that were popular three years ago still remain trendy because we see them in street style images. While your cleaning out your closet, be on alert for some street style chic items (oversized graphic sweaters, boyfriend jeans, chambray shirts, overalls, midi skirts, etc). Compliment new with old - and no one will be the wiser.

Get online girl! Earn cash for purchases you would make anyway from any of your favourite retailers like Hudson's Bay, Joe Fresh, Rebecca Minkoff and more through Ebates.ca.

Toronto Fashion Week Isn't World-Class - But It Can Be

$
0
0
Toronto Fashion Week just wrapped up, capping off a week-long extravaganza of runway shows and parties to celebrate our industry.

This is my fifth season coming to Fashion Week, dating back to the S/S15 shows. Fashion week is a great time to catch up with friends, uncover new talent and watch some of my favourite designers, but something has never added up for me.

Traditionally a fashion show is supposed to be for buyers to place orders and for editors to narrow down the countless runway looks into X key trends for the season. Neither of those things occur at Toronto Fashion Week anymore. In order to maximize the potential of this event, changes need to be made.

For the third time in the last five years, the name of the event has been changed -- this time to become Toronto Fashion Week (it was previously known World MasterCard Fashion week and L'Oreal Fashion Week).

While on the surface this looks like a great way to celebrate our heritage, it also covers the fact that the title sponsor for last season dropped out. Losing the main sponsor for the last six seasons probably isn't exactly what IMG had in mind when they bought Toronto Fashion Week.

Having a Canadian sponsor would go along way towards raising the public interest, as well as maintaining the heritage and charisma of the event.

Canada has world-class fashion talent, but so far the industry has been unable to become something greater than the sum of its individual parts.

One of my favourite parts of Fashion Week is falling in love with a new designer. Consistently having all of Toronto's top talent (Pink Tartan, Beaufille & Laura Siegel are three of Canada's best womenswear designers that all showed last season, but are absent this time around) under one roof is crucial to maximizing the potential of this week.

There are plenty of reasons why one designer would decide to go another route. Pink Tartan is showing a "See Now - Buy Now" presentation where the audience can order off the runway, while Beaufille showed as part of MADE in New York last month.

IMG should make it a priority to secure all of Toronto's top talent in order to get the media's full interest. Canada has an abundance of talented young designers who are making noise in other markets (Vejas, Thomas Tait and Erdem, etc.). All these designers are based in markets with seemingly more opportunities, but that doesn't have to be the case.

From department stores such as Holt Renfrew and Saks Fifth Avenue, to boutiques like JoshuaDAVID and Nomad, Toronto's retail presence is as diverse and extensive as any major city. As the retail scene in Canada continues to expand, IMG should take a long look at facilitating our talent both locally and internationally in order to bolster the week.

One of the main goals of hosting a runway show is not only to market your collection to the press, but also to sell to buyers and subsequently expand your business base. Holding Toronto Fashion Week in late March pretty much kills this notion as most retailers have spent their budget for the season. This gives buyers very little flexibility, even if they adore a collection.

It also doesn't help young designers who need every sale possible. I understand that the date is most likely set in stone due to IMG's other commitments, but any possible move forward would make a dramatic difference.

Toronto Fashion Week is at a crossroads. Canada has world-class fashion talent (not just in terms of designers, but also bloggers, stylists and buyers), but so far the industry has been unable to become something greater than the sum of its individual parts.

Although we don't currently have the same infrastructure as a city like New York (I'll address this issue in another piece) I hope we can unite as an industry and create a truly world-class event.

The 2016 Daily Front Row's Fashion Los Angeles Awards took place on Sunday, and Bella Hadid was given the biggest honour of the night: Model of the Year.

The 19-year-old, who said in her Instagram acceptance speech that she is "so lucky" to call modelling her job, took to the event's red carpet looking incredibly chic in a short Moschino by Jeremy Scott tuxedo dress with burnt edges. The California brunette paired the masculine frock with a patent leather pumps and a chainlink choker necklace.

And right by Hadid's side during the red carpet photo-ops? Boyfriend, The Weeknd, who matched perfectly with his model girlfriend in all-black ensemble consisting of black skinny jeans and a simple jacket.

And if you thought these two couldn't get any cuter, you were wrong. In a red carpet interview with ET Online, Hadid gushed about Toronto's Abel Tesfaye and how incredible his constant support is.

"It's so awesome. I love him, so it's really nice that we can be here together and that he's supporting me," Bella shared. "It feels great."

Sister Gigi Hadid also attended the event to support her little sister, and boy, did she looked extra stunning for the occasion,

In a sheer Yanina Couture Gown and La Perla bodysuit, the blond bombshell conquered the red carpet by showing off her long legs. Her tousled beach waves and moody brown lip played the perfect contrast to the bohemian getup.

And the Hadid sisters weren't the only superstars at the awards — everyone from Jennifer Lopez to Lady Gaga were in attendance, along with Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, who opted out of the red carpet, but showed up for the actual ceremony.

Hot Trends For Undergarments This Spring

$
0
0
As far as style goes... the only thing I love more than comfy pajamas are cozy undergarments. If you have been reading my blog for a while, you know my favourite combination is cozy and cute! When those two elements come together, it is fashion perfection.

Recently, I was lucky enough to speak with Jessica Schmidt, Category Manager of Jockey. Jessica shared with me the hottest trends for undergarments this season. She also shared great tips on how to care for your undergarments.

What are the new trends in underwear this season?

The new trend in underwear is playing off the athleisure movement that has been wildly popular. Sport style underwear is the perfect complement to the athleisure trend. These style of underwear do not have visible lines and the moisture wicking fabric keeps you cool and comfortable while you are on the go.

Which colours are on trend?

Colour is big this spring -- sunny yellow, mint, candy pink complemented by richer jewel tones such as real turquoise and fuchsia are on trend. They're fun, bright and perfect for spring.

How to ensure the right fit (for both men and women)?

First, identify your preferred silhouette and desired features and benefits. If you prefer a more classic, full coverage fit, you may like a high cut or a brief. If you prefer a more modern, low-rise fit, you may prefer a hipster or a bikini. Follow your normal sizing. Some brands sizing may differ slightly so be sure to check size charts.

How to care for your underwear?

Look for undergarments that are high quality and known for being durable and long lasting. Not only that, but look for underwear that are extremely easy to care for as long as you follow the proper care instructions. Always follow the care instructions on the garment to ensure optimal longevity and durability. However, sometimes the best results will come from washing by hand or with a lingerie bag, especially for lace.

I also spoke with Sean Radford, Director of Men's Design at Jockey. Sean shared all the latest trends for men's undergarments.

New styles and colours for men?

More than ever before, T-shirts are in fashion and have become a multifunctional staple in every man's wardrobe. They define the new casual norm and play into current styling trends. There are T-shirts new to the market that meet the demands of today's modern man. There is new technology that reduces piling, shrinkage and fading so it will look and feel new, wash after wash. You can literally wear a T-shirt right from the dryer, box fresh.

For men, the colour palette includes rich blues and greys but you will also see bright pops of neon colors from neon citrus, lime, ultra orange, neon orange and bright green. Heathers are also more prevalent this spring.

I am going to use these helpful tips as I continue to expand my style ideas this year!

Your suggestions are always welcome, as I continue on my journey to live life to the fullest. Let's have the very best year ever!

In case you thought the man bun was dead, think again.

Man Bun is very much alive and well, and he's coming to a computer screen near you.

Created by Jack Greystone (a.k.a. a man with one of the most legendary man buns out there), Natalie Rae Robison, Anna Hopkins and Clara Altimas and starring Greystone himself, Man Bun is sharing all the struggles he faces to grow, condition and maintain his topknot, which truly is a work of art, in case you thought otherwise.

The series, which you can preview in the video above, is an attempt to bring Man Bun back to centre stage and to merge "fashion and art and hair together, which hasn't been done before." Man bun isn't just a hairstyle, it's a lifestyle.

"If you think this journey is simply a physical one, think again. Growth takes time, and conditioning takes maintenance," Man Bun says in the beginning of the Robison-directed clip, which shows him working out at the gym and washing those glorious locks in the shower.

"Farmers grow crops, I grow hair. Would I say that I work harder than a farmer? Absolutely," Man Bun laments in the video. He also compares himself to professional athletes, saying "we both have the same drive, same perseverance when it comes to our craft."

And clearly, Man Bun has his 'do to thank for his success, both in real-life and social media life.

"A long time ago, no bun, no friends. And now? Bun — half a quarter of a million followers." (Side note: we'd like to thank Man Bun for the HuffPost Canada Style shoutout in the video.)

Watch the video above, and you'll never underestimate Man Bun again.

When you've got it, you've got it. And if you've got curves, flaunt 'em!

Sure, we've seen an abundance of thin models walk the runways of Paris, New York and Milan. But by now, we all should know fashion has nothing to do with the number you see on the scale. Fashion is about confidence.

And if there's one women who says it best, it's style icon Marilyn Monroe: "To all the girls that think you're fat because you're not a size zero, you're the beautiful one, it's society who's ugly."

Preach. It.

From Mae West to Sophia Lauren, Beyoncé to Adele (and who could forget Kim Kardashian?), these 15 inspirational women have proved to the world that style has nothing to do with being stick thin.

What Happens If You Get Your Period At Your Wedding?

Menstruation is part of who I am. At a few days away from being 30, I've been menstruating for over half my life. And I'm used to it. I accept the cramps, the bloating, and the high cost of feminine hygiene products. I'm confident I can handle my period on planes, in meetings, and even on beach vacations. I am a seasoned menstruator who always has spare pads in her handbag, in case you ever need to borrow any. And yet, I am freaking terrified of getting my period on my wedding day.

Since I became engaged last August, I've noticed people ask me about every little detail concerning my wedding. They ask if my fiancé and I have booked the venue, how I'm going to wear my hair, and whether we opted for a band or a DJ (We went for a 90s-themed video dance party, FYI). People love to ask you about the beautiful things, like what your dress will look like or which song you're going to walk down the aisle to, but no one talks about the nitty gritty. Yet no one seems to want to talk about the single thing that gives me more stress than the budget, the guest list and the menu combined: what to do if it turns out you're riding the crimson wave on your wedding day.

While I'd never heard people speak about it publicly, when I posted about my fear on Facebook, it seemed I was not alone! My friend J., who is also engaged, confided she is worried AF about what to do if her wedding becomes a reenactment of There Will be Blood. Says J, "Oh, how disappointed both my fiance and I would be if I had my period on our wedding day. We wouldn't let it stop us but what a nuisance!" In addition to being a bit worried about how menstrual time might complicate honeymoon fun, J. has another huge fear: "Oh gosh - imagine leaking through my gorgeous gown?!"

J. is by no means the only person I know who shares the fear of getting leaky at her wedding with me. When I asked what she thought about this anxiety, My bridesmaid K. responded, "I'm not even engaged and I've had nightmares about that happening to me!" Then, the very next day, one of my aunts told me over Social Media, "After 47 years of marriage, I remember clearly how worried I was about getting my period on my wedding day." It would appear the fear of menstrual blood at one's wedding is neither new, nor uncommon.

The fear of expelled uterine blood creating a CSI-style situation at one's wedding is, I believe, a rational one. When I was eleven, my mom bought me a book on puberty. It instructed that when I had my period, I should never wear my favourite clothes for fear of leaking through them. Accordingly, I avoided wearing my favourite Gap Khakis whenever it was that time of the month. Those khakis probably cost all of $35 back in the late 90s. While it would have been upsetting to get blood on them, I could have bought more. My wedding gown, however, is by far and away the costliest item I've ever purchased. If I got gobs of menstrual blood on that, it would be a disaster! Should a leak happen, I wouldn't just be humiliated in front of all my friends and family, I would have destroyed the most expensive investment piece I've ever owned!

The weird thing is, while I personally know many people who share the fear of getting their periods on their wedding days, no one seems to be talking about it in wedding-related Media. Now that I've been engaged for 8 months, I've read countless articles on how to handle seating chart crises and wedding favours mishaps. Yet, I've never seen anything a guide to handling your period when you're wearing a dress you need help to pee in! I mean, bridal magazines suggest people take freaking dance classes in preparation for their weddings, but they don't suggest brides take a few minutes to design a contingency plan in case Aunt Flow arrives as an uninvited guest? Not one wedding magazine I've seen has so much as suggested I hide an emergency tampon in my bouquet. Which, come to think of it, is an awesome idea.

It is my opinion one of the most illustrative pieces of evidence there's still a stigma surrounding menstruation is this dearth of info on managing periods at weddings. The Western wedding tradition asks women to wear freaking lily-white gowns and never once discusses how to avoid getting parts of your expelled uterine lining on them? Of course we are setting brides up for a stressful situation! When I watched 27 Dresses for the first time 8 years ago, Katherine Heigl warned me I may have to ask one of my bridesmaids help me eliminate on the day. That phenomenon was played for laughs in a PG-13 mainstream romantic comedy. That says so much. Toilet humour is less taboo than menstruation. Our period blood is the ultimate unspeakable waste.

Well, I'm taking a stance. I'm breaking the silence. As a menstruating person, I refuse to treat this bodily process as taboo any longer. I'm starting a conversation. Menstruators of the world, I am open to your advice!

Wish Shopping App Labels Clothing 'Fat Lady' Instead Of 'Plus-Size'

If you're cruising through a shopping app called Wish today, you might notice something rather upsetting. The e-commerce platform has labeled their selection of clothes for plus-size women as "fat lady."

Yes, it's true. The website is selling items listed as, "Fat Lady Black Jumpsuits," "Women Fashion Fat Lady Printing Slim A-Dress" and "Fat Lady Knee Length Elegant Floral Dress Sleeveless Slim Fit Plus Size."

And that's not all. As pointed out by Mic, when searching the term "fat lady" on the site, it is revealed that the offensive label is slapped onto an array of other items, from skirts to tops

According to Recode, Wish, founded by Peter Szulczewski and Danny Zhang, is an "e-commerce app that sells a giant assortment of products at bargain-basement prices," and connects "buyers directly to Chinese manufactures who ship to customer's doors from factories."

So, sure. We'll give Wish the benefit of the doubt; maybe the term got lost in translation. However, the company, which is said to be worth $3 billion, is based in San Francisco and, let's be real, someone must have thought for a second that the term "fat lady" wasn't the best description for the clothing.

And this isn't the first time Wish has been called out for body-shaming. The platform caused online outrage for posting an image that shows a thin model fitting her entire body into the pant leg of a plus-size legging.

And the saddest part of it all? According to HNGN, the company has yet to take down both advertisements.

As the Daily Mail put it, "If you want to sell clothes to plus-size women, you probably shouldn't call them 'fat.'"

UGH!
